The great thing about the business game is it's not like baseball.  In baseball it's three strikes and you're OUT.  In the business game, you can keep swinging the bat for as long as the good Lord allows you to be alive and healthy on this earth.

They say only one out of every five small businesses are successful.  This is considered a negative statement, but it's a positive statement to me!  To me this means if I start up ten small businesses, I'll have TWO successful businesses that I can run.  That's the positive way to look at it.  I'm looking at the two successful businesses, not the failed ones.  I keep playing the business game until I win.

Of course the odds of success are MUCH better if you really know what you're doing in your business field.  My last ten businesses in a row were all profitable.  But regardless of what the exact odds are, they're all "something" to one.  And that “one” means you’ll own a successful business.

What if Thomas Edison quit after the third, or three hundredth, light bulb burned out?

What if Henry Ford quit because he just couldn't get that car engine to start after countless attempts?

The Beatles are the greatest band ever, but were rejected by a few record labels that said they sucked.  So were Elvis, Tina Turner in the 80's, and countless others.  What if after their third rejection they all said, "I'm done with this.  We suck?"  I’ll tell you what would have happened, some of the greatest music artists of ALL-TIME would have never even existed.

I could give 1,000’s of examples like the ones above, but my point is everyone played until they won.

A second part to this article could be that all everyone remembers is wins, and wins outweigh losses.

Brett Farve has the most wins as a QB in NFL history, and the most TD passes; but he also made the most mistakes by throwing the most interceptions in NFL history and choked in countless playoff games.  But his Superbowl win and his ability to win games during the regular season overshadows his mistakes.  He'll be in the Hall-Of-Fame and is considered by many to be one of the greatest QB's ever.  People remember Brett for his “wins” not his “losses.”

Back to the Beatles, they've had at least 40-50 very good hit songs that they officially released, but they also released another 150-160 songs that were not very good at all.  No other music group will ever officially release that many hit songs again, but no one will ever release that many bad songs again either.  The Beatles are remembered for their many hits.  They made billions of dollars from their hits. The misses are never mentioned.  They kept playing until they won.  And winning is all that matters.

I'm personally known for my last few very successful businesses.  Who cares about my failed lawn service and flea market business that barely made any money almost 20 years ago?  Or my handful of businesses that made only $100,000.  I’m now known for my last few businesses that made millions.  I kept playing until I won.

Keep playing until you win.  And once you do, its history!
